Blog-asana: Words on Yoga
Completing 30 Days of OM

My Daily Cup of OM

Without the 30 days of OM, my sanity may have cracked this January.  I feel incredibly grateful to the Dhanwantari Center for creating this opportunity to see what a daily yoga practice could be.  My most surprising lesson was how invigorating a restorative yoga can be.  The least surprising is that choosing to face the snow and cold head on, leave my house, and practice group yoga prevents cabin fever.

Other lessons, in no particular order:
1) No matter how tired I feel, an hour of Yin yoga is always worth the time.
2) My core can and does get stronger with daily practice.
3) I no longer hate reverse warrior, but I do hate standing-head to knee.
4) I can drive in the snow in South Bend, but still get stuck in my own driveway.
5) Yoga with weights is more fun than I possibly imagined.

I grew tired of yoga half way through the month, but I couldn't complain, let alone quit.  I watched Stephanie teaching 13 classes per week on top of her full time job, with humor, grace, and perfect temper.  With that, I couldn't lose sight of how little effort a daily practice cost me.  The tiredness faded quickly as I returned to my mat again and again.  With January at an end, I will be less likely to drive to Dhan in a snowstorm,  but my intention to continue a daily practice remains.

What makes you feel better at the end of a long day?
